Why do we use Raw Foods in our Superfood Snacks?
Raw foods are natural, uncontaminated whole foods that have not been altered by heat. They contain specific enzymes that are intrinsic to the particular food they are in. Many raw food experts agree that the general capacity to keep foods in their raw and natural state is below or at 118 degrees.
Enzymes are literally energized protein molecules that are contained within all living cells. They help assist us digesting our foods by breaking down the proteins, fats, carbohydrates and fiber in the foods that we eat.
They allow us to abstract the beneficial nutrients within from foods we eat, while also removing toxins. Enzymes are key to un-locking and maintaining energy after you eat and may also help to boost the body's immune system.
When food is heated and "cooked," the heating process greatly diminishes the value of the once live enzymes. Raw foods contain original life force energy. If you try to plant a roasted almond you can never get an almond tree but if you plant a raw almond it has the ability and potential to sprout into an almond producing tree.
This is ultimately not a universal principal, however, put into practice you will find it to be true. There are, conversely, some foods that exhibit higher levels of nutrients when cooked. For example, Reishi or Cordyceps Mushrooms need to be heated to crack the cell wall so the nutrients can be released.
Raw foods also contain oils in their natural state which are not chemically altered by heating. These oils may help to lubricate the digestive tract and further assist in elimination of toxins.
Raw foods have been getting a lot of press in the tabloids, too! Many Hollywood Stars choose to eat more raw, organic foods because of the way it helps to enhance their physical "glow." Some also swear by a "raw food diet" assisting in weight loss by costuming a diet of only raw foods and fresh juices.
