Schisandra berries grow on beautiful vines that with delicate pink flowers and are native to China, Korea and Russia. Some eastern parts of the United States may even have them, as well. It's an ancient superfood - superherb.
Schisandra berries contain all 5 Elemental Tastes. The Chinese name for schisandra, "Wu Wei Zi" mean the “five-flavored herb”. Other names for schisandra are the five-taste fruit, and the herb of five tastes.
In traditional Chinese application, schisandra berry may be used in combination with other herbs as a general liver tonic. It is also found quite often in Chinese formulas, combined with Goji Berries for beauty and anti-aging formulas.
Many people enjoy using dried schisandra berries in herbal teas. The berry can also be powered and used in a multitude of delicious raw food recipes including raw chocolate, elixirs, superfood smoothies, desserts and more.
